SRK is proud to announce that it has filed two new class action cases, one to close out 2018 and the other to ring in 2019.
On December 19, 2018 SRK filed a class action suit in the United States District Court of Connecticut against Marriott International, Inc. and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. SRK believes that, as early as 2014, cyber criminals exploited vulnerabilities in Marriott and Starwood’s network and stole guest’s personal information, affecting as many as 500 million guests. The personal information included: names, phone numbers, email addresses, passport numbers, dates of birth, credit card numbers and credit card expiration dates. SRK is bringing this suit for breach of (1) consumer protection, (2) negligence, (3) contract and (4) data privacy statutes.
On January 3, 2019 SRK filed an antitrust action in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois against H&R Block, Inc., and H&R Block Tax Services for perpetrating a conspiracy to harm their employees. H&R Block implemented and enforced a “no poaching” agreement among themselves and all franchisees prohibiting the hiring of employees from either H&R Block or other franchisees. This led to lower employee mobility and reduced competition for those employees. This resulted in harm to their employees by lowering wages.
